1. Que paso bien… porque?
I felt like I was extremely prepared for Nachos Tacos in terms of being able to comprehend and fully understand what the cashier was asking and telling me, and speaking confidently with an authentic accent. This success stemmed from all of the practice I did with Clarissa (An actual native speaker) to make sure I would be able to understand the cashier, and say all of the words correctly. I also would not just practice one way, we would switch up how we sayed the different terms, so no matter what way the cashier said it, I would understand. Additionally, I put a lot of effort into stepping out of my comfort zone, and practicing in front of the entire class. I knew that by practicing in front of a whole group of my peers, I would easily be able to do it one on one. It also gave me an opportunity to see how I could improve, so I would feel even more prepared. Overall, my preparation made me really successful when we went to Nachos Tacos because I was able to confidently understand and talk to the cashier.
2. Que no paso bien… porque?
I think I could have done a better job making extra conversation with the cashier at Nachos Tacos. For example, when she greeted me, I could have asked her how she was doing, rather than just saying hello back. And when giving her my money, I could have said how much I was giving her like I practiced, rather than just giving her the money. I think this was due to me just freezing up, and getting a little nervous when we actually got to the taco shop. If I were to go again, I would ask those questions and dive deeper than just ordering my food, and being polite. I still feel like I did a good job with what I did say, but just felt like I could have tried to say even more.
3. Que fue el momento más significante de la experiencia?
One significant moment during this project was when I did the full practice run in front of the class with Clarissa as the cashier, and having Senor G actually ask the questions he would be asking us. As mentioned before, I knew that if I was able to order in front of the whole class, I would easily be able to do it one on one with the cashier at Nachos Tacos. Since I was able to fluently talk to “the cashier” (Clarissa), and understand what she was saying while she was talking at a normal pace, it really helped me feel confident about doing it for real. Additionally, the other part is describing our food to Senor G, and was the part I was most nervous about because all the words I used to describe my food were new to me. Actually having Senor G ask me the questions how he would really helped me know how to decipher what he was asking, and helped me feel extremely prepared for when I would actually be describing it. Once I had finished the run-through I was also able to receive critique from the class on how they would grade me. Everyone gave me a 25/25 and said I did a great job which gave me even more confidence than I already had. Doing the run through in front of the class gave me that extra confidence I needed to succeed in this project.
4. Describe su crecimiento en el espanol?
My vocabulary, speaking, listening, and writing skills grew a lot during this project. In terms of vocab, I have learned many new words related to food. Learning these words has allowed me to rally improve my speaking, listening, and writing because I can use these words in all of those things. For example, because I had learned that queso means cheese while doing my vocab, I was able to listen and respond the the cashier at Nachos Tacos when she asked if I wanted nay cheese in my burrito. Without that knowledge, I would have had no idea what she was saying, an wouldn’t have been able to respond. In terms of speaking, I practiced a lot with ordering my food, and trying to speak in all spanish when doing anything related to this project. This showed because at the taco shop, I spoke with an authentic accent, and new what to say. In terms of listening, all of the practice and actual final project prepared me and helped me learn how to point out key words to interpret what the person was saying. This is something I can take with me as I move through spanish, and keep needing to listen to spanish speakers. Writing wise, the script packet we did with the conjugations, and vocab words really helped me see on paper what the words looked like. Writing things out helped me solidify what I already knew and build on new things. I was also able to see the accents and spelling which really helped me. Overall, my spanish knowledge grew an extreme amount just based off of the amount of effort I put in to feel prepared and go above and beyond.
5. Hay comentarios o sugerencias?
I thought this project was really fun, and it was cool to do a real world project. I really appreciated the amount of time we got actually practice, and feel prepared. I also felt like this project actually helped build my spanish skills which was really cool. If we were to do a project like this again, I would enjoy if we spent more time on the vocab, and really embedding it into our heads. Overall, I really enjoyed the project.
