We've Got Style Project Description
For this project, we were tasked to create a short story, personal essay, or set of 9 poems to present in a creative way in a book that we created. We would go through stages of critique and designs until we came up with our final product and presented it at exhibition. This was an individual project besides the critique sessions we had. What I brought to the times that we had critique sessions was some really specific critique about how others could improve their books. Doing this gave those people ideas on how to improve their stories, and me some ideas on how I could change mine as well. Some areas I could grow as a critique giver is by thinking a bit more about what I will give them critique for, instead of just putting everything down. In terms of our classes learning outcomes, I feel like I did really well. For work ethic, every time we had work time in class I was working a hundred percent of the time, and I spent a lot of outside time to make sure I was going above and beyond. In terms of collaboration, I gave really kind specific and helpful feedback when we had critique sessions with the class on each other's books. In terms of oral communication, I feel like at our exhibition I explained my book and the process very well. In terms of written communication, my 9 poems that I did dealt with controversial issues, and we're all separated by acts that tied together by world isms or things that people deal with on a day-to-day basis. In terms of content, I went above and beyond by creating a book with a theme not only on the outside, but with what I wrote and the meaning behind it. I lined the inside of my book with black papers so the white and blues and purples that I used really stood out, and since I used quotes from celebrities in my poems to further back up my points, all of the crooked lines represented “crooked” things that were said or thing that mean something “crooked”. In terms of our classes values, I also feel like I did a good job with all of them. I demonstrated empathy, by recognizing what I couldn't get done in the time that we had, and by always recognizing that if I didn't have the materials I needed, it just wasn't going to work. I also had to be a little bit empathetic towards myself, because I was always trying not to be too hard on myself about how it looked. In terms of grit, I never stopped working on my book even when the pages kept falling off because the glue wasn't sticking, or the page just fell off. I just never stopped until I was extremely proud and happy with the product I would soon be presenting. In terms of responsibility, I met all of the dead lines, as well as making sure I didn't lose anything or any of the small pieces that I cut up to then glue into my book. In terms of respect, I respected all the materials I worked with, I respected all of the critique I received, and I respected the issues I was talking about. I demonstrated integrity because when I told myself that I wanted to do something with the book or talk about a certain issue I make sure to do it in a way that was still poetic and told the story about our current world and people situations. I am extremely, extremely proud of my final book. It tells the story of our current world and people's situations, and is presented in a way that is appealing to the eye. I'm also proud of the title that I came up with, because it describes everything so perfectly but yet it is so simple. If I had to grade myself in terms of our learning outcomes and class values I would give myself an A+ because I was always making sure I was demonstrating all of the things, and just went above and beyond with everything I did for this project. I was also extremely proud of the way I presented at exhibition. This book was something I wasn't sure how the public was going to react to because of how real these issues are. It was really interesting to explain, then have them read, and get a reaction from them about if they thought these issues really are pertaining to our current world, or if they completely disagreed with the point I was making. Based on how I read people, I would have to believe that most people agreed with what I said or just believed that the issues discussed are real, and are happening now. |
